Wanted to see beautiful rice fields during our stay in Vietnam. But they were already harvested in October. Thanks to the great support and advice of Vietnam Custom Travel we were recommended to do the Bac Son tour. Perfect choice and thanks again to the quick and competent feedbacks received to our questions beforhand.
Just to spice the whole thing up, we (customers) got the dates mixed up and were waiting in the hotel lobby one day early to start the trip. At basically no notice time the driver and tour guide made themselves available and we could leave that same day only 2 hours late. Thanks for your amazing flexibility, guys!
After a comfortable 3.5hr car ride we arrived at the homestay - fantastic people, very friendly, big house, very different from what we are used to. A quick lunch was served before heading off for a hike through the village and then up to the telecom tower. Both cannot be described, you have to see and experience it. Everything grows here, Pomelos, dragon fruit, vegetables and of course rice. The fields were still green yellowish, wonderful to look at from the top of the mountain. And we came back to the homestay on time for the sunset in the middle of the fields.
A great dinner was served by our hosts and after a good night of sleep (thats a great adventure too) it was time for a nice breakfast - you will definitely never starve here.
Our walk took us alongside tile manufacturers onto a mountain trail through 3 valleys, each one more picturesque than the other. Rice fields, plenty of farms, big butterflies and fruit trees. Also, there are plenty of star anis trees up there. Never saw any before.
It was a 4hr walk, so plenty to see. Don't forget your bottle of water....
Finally on our way back we stopped at a little waterfall where coincidentally a group of young people were having a BBQ. They spontaneously invited us to stay, made plenty of photos with us, which illustrated very well how friendly the local people are. Unfortunately we were already late and couldn't stay.
Let us point out that our driver was excellent (very safe, calm, no speeding or dangerous overtake in any way) and our guide (Hung) was fantastic. He kept an excellent balance between information and letting us discover. Everything came and happened very naturally. Couldn't wish for better.
All in all a very recommendable tour into a definitely non-touristy area of Vietnam. Thank you Kate and Hung for your great work.
